SPECIAL EVENTS
We look forward to three Special Events each year. The annual Outreach Dinner is completely funded by WCN. Honoring our designation as a 501c3 organization. Members donate by purchasing a ticket to the event. Celebration of Friendship is the second event at which we celebrate all women who embrace the spirit of the mission, vision and beliefs of our organization. In December, we enjoy an annual Holiday Party, to celebrate with friend and ring in the new year with joy! In addition to the three large Special Events, we also host smaller gatherings with a purpose, such as fundraising.
PROGRAMS
Five Programs are planned from August through May, beginning with our August kickoff event when we welcome members back after summer. Each program is designed by the Program Committee to reinforce WCN’s mission and beliefs. Our programs are informative, educational, inspirational, entertaining or, in many instances, all of the above. The cost of most programs is included in the annual membership donation. Refreshments are provided, and members are encouraged to bring guests.
SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS
These small groups, sanctioned by WCN, gather monthly to pursue special interests and enjoy the fellowship of other WCN members. Birthday Lunchers meet quarterly for birthday celebrants and others who wish to join in. Bookies read a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction and meet monthly to participate in lively discussions. Day Trippers visit places of interest around the St. Louis area, some of which are surprisingly well-kept secrets. Dining Divas search out unique and interesting cuisine at local restaurants. Stitchers meet for coffee and conversation while pursuing their favorite needle arts. All members are welcome at any of these groups.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Each year, in addition to our annual Scholarship program for women in transition at the St. Louis Community Colleges, WCN assists local St. Louis area charities serving women and children that embody the spirit of the mission, vision and beliefs of our organization. We contribute financial or material resources or volunteer our time to these worthy causes. In recent years, we have provided support to the Burns Recovered Support Group, St. Louis Crisis Nursery, Lydia House, Kinloch Learning Center, Our Ladies’ Inn, Home Sweet Home and Gateway to Hope. The charities are chosen by the Outreach Committee through a specific application process. Funds for the scholarships come from tribute and memorial donations and from an annual voluntary donation from members. Participation in Outreach is by voluntary contribution.
